What is biomethane
How we produce biomethane
Through Edison Next, we are active in biomethane production: one of our goals to contrast climate change is to install ten biogas/biomethane plants by 2030. Currently, we have five plants either already operational under authorization process. In Caivano (Naples) and Zinasco (Pavia), two plants are operational, producing a total of 4 million m³ of biomethane per year from the treatment of over 60,000 tons of urban waste (OFMSW). Another plant is under construction in Caivano, while two projects in Gricignano (Caserta) and Civitavecchia (Rome) are progressing throughout the authorization process.
How we support third producers
Kanadevia Inova
Edison has signed a 15-year agreement with Kanadevia Inova for the construction of a biomethane plant in the province of Cuneo, to be completed by the first half of 2025. The facility will be fully powered by agricultural by-products, and its entire production— amounting to approximately 3 million cubic meters per year — will be purchased by Edison.
Verdalia Bioenergy
Edison has signed a long-term agreement with Verdalia Bioenergy for the exclusive purchase of 14 million cubic meters per year of agricultural biomethane, produced by seven plants located in the province of Brescia.
How we commercialize biomethane
TUA
TUA manages approximately 70% of transportation in the Abruzzo region. Our one-year agreement involves the supply of about three million standard cubic meters of biomethane to fuel up to two hundrer buses in the regional fleet
LC3 Trasporti
LC3 was the first italian company to use LNG vehicles in the road transportation sector. A distinguishing feature of our collaboration is the complete management of bio-LNG fuel supply chain by using sustainable vehicles.
