Our commitment to the energy transition
Let's build a sustainable energy future together
We are a responsible business and a leader in the energy transition: we are committed to more sustainable production and decarbonisation. During 2021, the CO2 emission index of our electric power generation park continued to fall and the share of electricity produced from renewable sources increased.
Nicola Monti
“We are a responsible business operator and we are striving to become a leader in the energy transition in line with the country’s goals. We have implemented a hydrocarbon decommissioning plan and allocated the newly available resources to generation from renewable sources. We are the second largest wind power operator in Italy and we are investing in photovoltaic and hydroelectric development. However, energy transition also means the efficient use of natural gas, which is essential for the security of the energy system, which is why we are investing in the latest generation of highly efficient gas plants”.
Growth in renewables
Renewable sources are our main growth driver: we aim to strengthen our position in the wind power sector, where we are the second-largest operator in the country with 1 GW of installed capacity, we are committed to photovoltaic development and we have been involved in hydroelectric production for over 100 years.

Efficiency and respect for the environment
Latest-generation thermoelectric power plants can guarantee constant, always-available and flexible energy production with efficiency levels of up to 63%. They make it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 70% compared to the Italian average.

Energy transition in transport
Liquefied natural gas: fuelling ships, road transport and access to energy in remote places
We want to make liquefied natural gas accessible to the Italian market by reducing emissions in the maritime and heavy road transport sectors and by facilitating the methanisation of areas of the country that are not yet connected to the grid. This is why we are developing Italy’s first integrated logistics chain for the supply, transport on small-scale LNG carriers, storage and distribution of liquefied natural gas. The first stage in this process was the start of work in 2019 to build the first coastal LNG storage facility in mainland Italy in the Port of Ravenna and the construction of the first 30,000 cubic metre LNG ship. Additionally, there are two other coastal depot projects under development in Southern Italy and an authorised depot in Oristano.
Energy efficiency and customer services
Energy efficiency
We offer tailored, integrated solutions in the energy consultancy field and we handle upgrading and design of buildings and on-site energy production using energy resources with the goal of minimising environmental impact and reducing costs. We make our experience and expertise available to businesses, public administrations and local authorities to spread a culture of energy efficiency, promoting the development of industry and the country.
Customer services
We want to increasingly support our customers by offering not only a transparent and reliable supply of electricity and gas, but also a world of value-added services ranging from e-mobility to smart, tailored home solutions.
The energy transition in Europe
Looking ahead to 2050: the energy system on the brink of transition
In the coming years, generation from renewable sources will be increasingly important to achieve the goal of climate neutrality. A gradual transition in which an appropriate mix of traditional and green resources will ensure the security of the country’s energy system.
Europe has set the goal of becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent. The target is set out in the Green Deal, the plan to make the EU economy environmentally sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities for growth.
