Climate change
We have always been committed to promoting clean and affordable energy by developing economic, reliable and sustainable systems. We continuously invest in more efficient production methods with reduced environmental impact, supported by research and innovation of the best available technologies. Thanks to this commitment, we have established ourselves as key players in the energy security and decarbonization of Italy. Our growth strategy is deeply rooted in sustainability values and based on a number of strategic levers.
Water and marine resources
We adopt and plan actions related to the theme of water resources considering the different levels of the mitigation hierarchy: avoid and reduce the use of water and marine resources, reuse the water resource, restoring and regenerating aquatic and water body ecosystems. We follow the principles of responsible energy operator, respecting the current environmental legislation and the requirements received during the authorization for the construction of new plants or revamping. The actions described are carried out annually and also involve actors in the downstream value chain with regard to multiple water use.
Biodiversity and ecosystems
For the life of the planet and the well-being of mankind, we recognize as fundamental the conservation of ecosystems such as dynamic complexes of plants, animals and micro-organisms, as well as biodiversity, understood as variability of life in terms of species and ecosystems, and related ecosystem services. Our commitment to the energy transition and our focus on the communities and territories in which we operate are reflected in the positive impacts that our assets generate on biodiversity and ecosystems in general.
Resource use and circular economy
The transition to a circular economy model, where the rational use of energy goes hand in hand with that of other natural resources, plays a crucial role in addressing today’s environmental challenges. To facilitate a sustainable energy transition in the country, we invest in research and development of more efficient production technologies with low environmental impact. Achieving ambitious decarbonisation targets requires a systemic transformation, which we pursue by leveraging our internal expertise to innovate asset management, with the aim of maximising their competitiveness and reducing their dependence on critical resources.
