We are the second-largest importer of natural gas in Italy and the leading operator in LNG imports
A Diversified Portfolio
We manage a diversified portfolio that enables us to ensure both security and flexibility in supplying the Italian market. Today, we import approximately 14 billion cubic meters of natural gas into Italy each year, through supply contracts with Qatar (6.4 billion cubic meters), Libya (4.4 billion cubic meters), Algeria (1 billion cubic meters), Azerbaijan (1 billion cubic meters), and the United States (1.4 billion cubic meters), covering 23% of national demand.

We opened the U.S. LNG supply route
On May 14, 2025, we announced the arrival in Italy of the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States, under the long-term contract with Venture Global. The LNG carrier Elisa Aquila, part of Edison’s dedicated fleet for LNG transport, loaded the gas at the Calcasieu Pass facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. After two weeks of navigation, it delivered approximately 165,000 cubic meters of liquid LNG to the Piombino terminal, where it was regasified and injected into the national grid.
