The Greece-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector (IGB) links the Greek and Bulgarian gas networks, enabling imports from diversified sources and enhancing security of supply as well as the integration of Southeastern European markets.

The key role of IGB

The importance of IGB has been recognized at the European institutional level, as it has been constantly included in the lists of Projects of Common Interest (PCI). With a total length of 182 km, the pipeline connects the Greek natural gas transmission system and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline near the city of Komotini, with the Bulgarian transmission system near Stara Zagora, with a technical capacity of 3 billion cubic meters per year, expandable up to 5 bcm/y.

Our first international pipeline in operation

Construction work began in 2019, following the completion of the procurement process, and the pipeline became operational in October 2022. It is the first international pipeline we have developed, promoted by ICGB, a company whose capital is 50% owned by IGI Poseidon (our joint venture with Depa International Projects) together with Bulgarian Energy Holding.
