FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano
A journey to make Italy's art heritage sustainable

A virtuous partnership: our commitment to the local area
Energy efficiency
The partnership includes the launch of a smart audit: a digital monitoring and ongoing, predictive analysis service at five of the FAI’s assets. The aim of the smart audit is to identify action that can be taken to ensure resources are used more efficiently and to reduce the impact on the environment.
Electric mobility
We are promoting a more sustainable concept of mobility. We’ll be installing electrical charging points at four FAI sites so that visitors can recharge their electric vehicles.
Energy
We are becoming the FAI’s official electricity and gas supplier and will therefore be supplying our energy to all FAI sites in Italy.
Sites involved
The first action in improving the energy efficiency of the FAI’s assets was taken at La Cavallerizza in Milan, the headquarters of the Trust. The previous heating system at the building, which stores the historic volumes of the Braidense National Library, was replaced with a more efficient solution which uses a modern system of gas-driven heat pumps. This technology reduces CO₂ emissions, cuts energy costs and means the building can safely story the library's assets by keeping the temperature and humidity constant.
The other properties concerned are Villa Panza and the Monastery of Torba in Varese, Villa dei Vescovi in Luvigliano, a small village in Torreglia, Padua, Masino Castle and grounds in Masino, a small village in Caravino, Turin and Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan.
Edison and local communities
Our partnership with the FAI is based on our belief that we all have a responsibility to create value for the local communities where we work on a day-to-day basis, thus making a tangible contribution towards safeguarding local areas and any places of social, cultural and touristic interest in our country.

FAI: protecting and enhancing Italian heritage
Launched in 1975, the National Trust for Italy is a non-profit foundation which works to take care of unique places and sites in our country, to raise awareness of Italy's historical and artistic assets and to oversee cultural protection, something set out in the Italian Constitution, as well as maintaining a focus on and a commitment to sustainability.
The FAI has taken steps to turn this commitment into concrete results by reducing its CO2 emissions by 15% over a ten-year period starting in 2015. Thanks to the new partnership with Edison, the FAI will be able to go one step further and reduce emissions by up to 30%.
In 2022, Edison once again joins FAI to protect biodiversity at the Foundation’s sites.
This year, Edison renews its long-standing friendship with FAI through a two-year contribution supporting biodiversity projects that the Foundation carries out within its properties.
This is an important commitment from a company that has been investing for years in activities to safeguard biodiversity through local initiatives — like those FAI will be able to implement within its sites thanks also to this crucial support:
The project Bees and butterflies at FAI sites
The project Swifts at FAI sites
The project to protect the badger colony at Palazzo and Giardini Moroni (Bergamo)
Edison, always attentive to combining its commitment to energy sustainability with the protection of landscapes and biodiversity, has decided to support FAI’s projects because it firmly believes in the need to safeguard the environment for future generations.
