Milan lights up with Prima Diffusa
Since 2011, we have partnered with the City of Milan to bring the La Scala season premiere to every district across the city. Through Prima Diffusa, the doors of theatres, museums, but also bars, hospitals, prisons, gyms, and cultural centers are opened—so that everyone can experience the emotions and beauty of Opera.

Discovering the Opera: meetings, performances and activities in the city
We organize listening guides and opera screenings, but also workshops, artistic performances, concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and theatre shows inspired by the opening title of the La Scala season.
Throughout the city of Milan, we create opportunities not just to discover the plot and characters or to understand the historical, social, and cultural context of the work, but—above all—to fully experience the emotions and connections that Opera still evokes today.
There is no true sustainability without social inclusion. That’s why, together with the Department of Culture of the City of Milan, Prima Diffusa reaches every corner of the city. It’s a project that truly brings us closer to the community where we were born.
The 14th Edition of Prima Diffusa
Screenings, exhibitions, talks, festivals, and artistic performances: over 35 venues and several free events across Milan inspired in 2025 by Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District by Dmitri Šostakovič.
The Premiere Screenings
On Sunday December 7 2025, more than 2,000 people experienced the magic of opera.
Starting at 6:00 PM, simultaneously with the performance at Teatro alla Scala, the opening night was broadcast in over 30 venues across Milan and in four additional locations outside the city.
All screenings were free entry, subject to seating availability.
Events marked with a musical note icon were preceded at 4:30 PM by a Listening Guide curated by the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.

Edison and Teatro alla Scala
A partnership of nearly 140 years, which began in 1883 when, with 2,450 lightbulbs, Edison illuminated a performance at La Scala for the first time using electric power.
Our relationship with Teatro alla Scala grows richer every year with a new edition of Prima Diffusa and the ongoing progress in improving the theater’s energy efficiency.
