Developing renewables alongside the territory

In August 2019, we launched the new mini-hydroelectric power plant in Palestro. This is another way we put into practice our growth strategy in the renewable energy sector while strengthening our ties with local communities: for the first time, citizens were able to contribute to financing a sustainable energy project in their own territory thanks to our Edison Crowd platform.

You are the heart of our energy

Edison Crowd is Edison’s new initiative through which we offer the communities hosting us the opportunity to participate in the realization of our projects in the field of renewable energy or energy efficiency, generating value together with the territory.

By financing the construction of the mini-hydroelectric power plant in Palestro, it is possible to receive, at the end of a 12-month period, a fixed gross annual interest on the amount invested. We have established three different interest rate tiers:

• 7% for residents in the provinces of Pavia, Vercelli, and Novara;
• 5% for holders of an electricity, gas, or services contract with Edison Energia;
• 4% for all other lenders.

The Palestro plant

The project, conceived by Edison in 2009 and authorized in 2016, came to fruition and begane production in 2022.
The Palestro mini-hydroelectric power uses the waters of the Sesia River and, being mostly underground, perfectly blends with the surrounding landscape thanks to its largely buried structure.
The renewable energy produced by the plant reduces CO² emissions by 6,500 tons annually.
