NEW NATURAL GAS INFRASTRUCTURES FOR EUROPE AND ITALY
Edison
is playing a leading role in the development of new infrastructures
to import natural gas for Europe and Italy.
The
Rovigo regasification terminal, the first offshore
facility of this kind in the world, became operational in 2009. It
will be used to import 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas a
year, equal to 10% of Italy’s natural gas needs.
Two other important projects under development are the
Galsi gas pipeline, which will link Algeria with
Sardinia and Tuscany, and the
ITGI gas pipeline, which will link Italy and Europe
with the Caspian Sea region by way of Greece and Turkey.
