Fondazione Edison was founded in Milan in 1999 to support and promote cultural initiatives and
scientific research designed to foster awareness of and research on certain socio-economic,
cultural and civic aspects of the local industrial systems and districts, including problems
related to education, research and innovation.
Particular attention is paid to the relationship between small/medium and large businesses
and between the community and local development, along with issues related to social
infrastructures and services and globalization. These topics are of extreme relevance to Italian
industrial competitiveness and employment, and to balance of trade, to which industrial districts
composed of small and medium-size businesses provide a vital contribution.
The Foundation promotes studies, research, publications and events, either directly or
jointly with other organizations, and sponsors projects that are consistent with its stated
purposes. The Foundation’s objective is to act as a catalyst, helping diverse entities - such
as universities, the research centers of large and small companies, research institutions and
organizations, entrepreneurs, and other associations and foundations that focus on local
systems - to coalesce around its projects and in turn enriching these entities with varied
research contributions.
